Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM:
The Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM (BWS) for University Students is a scholarship program by the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung. The Baden-Württemberg Stiftung is one of the largest foundations in Germany.
In equal proportions, this scholarship targets highly qualified incoming students from foreign partner universities and colleges as well as highly qualified outgoing students who want to attend a partner university or college abroad.
As part of this program, the international office of Internationale Hochschule Liebenzell (IHL), university of applied sciences, offers special programs for incoming and outgoing students such as field trips, workshops, and much more. Furthermore, there are networking opportunities through the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM such as the summer festival or the annual meeting in November, for instance. For further information, see the BWS guidelines please. Also, check out the BWS website!
Who is funded?
Good to excellent undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled at IHL, university of applied sciences, or at partner universities of IHL are encouraged to apply for the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM if they choose to spend a semester abroad. Students are evaluated for entering this program based on various criteria such academic achievements, language skills, experience abroad, church and social commitment, and their motivation to study abroad and to enter this program. Applicants should strive to increase their intercultural competence as well as to reach for new academic perspectives.
“Incoming students” are currently defined by the students from IHL’s partner universities.
If students receive scholarships with the purpose of specifically funding study abroad they will not be able to receive a Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM during the same time period. Scholarships which do not specifically serve the purpose of funding study abroad semesters but instead are considered additional financial aid such as travel grants or free room and board are not competing with the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM. If you receive BAFöG, please consider the information sheet on BWS-World, the online portal of the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM. Applications also go through this portal (more information at “application”).
Duration and amount of funding
Incoming students are funded with at least € 700.00 / month over the duration of 3 to 11 months. Depending on various factors, this amount could increase to € 1,400.00 / month over the duration of 3 to 11 months.
Outgoing students are funded with at least € 600.00 / month over the duration of 3 to 11 months. Depending on where outgoing students might go to for study abroad, this amount could increase to € 1,400.00 / month over the duration of 3 to 11 months.
Application
For incoming students, the application process runs through the international offices of IHL's partner universities and BWS-World.
For outgoing students, the application process runs through IHL’s international office, and BWS-World.
Applications need to be submitted through BWS-World by March 31 for the fall semester, and by August 31 for the spring / summer semester.
Applications must include the following documents:
- a current resume / curriculum vitae according to European standards: https://europass.cedefop.europa.eu/editors/en/cv/compose (including statements about possible church and social commitment),
- a letter of motivation including information about the academic career and previous experience in foreign countries (including vacations),
- a proof of language skills,

These documents must also be uploaded into BWS-World, and sent via e-mail to the manager of the IHL international office, Lucas Wehner.
After the application, an IHL commission will select the student(s) who will receive a Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM. This selection will be handled in cooperation with officials at IHL's partner universities. After the selection process, IHL will recommend students for the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM to the central scholarship committee (ZSK) at the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM. The ZSK committee includes representatives of universities in Baden-Württemberg, of the scholarship holders and alumni of the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM, of the Association of Scholarship Holders and Friends of the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM, of the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung and of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts. In the end, it is the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung which decides about whether a Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM is granted or not.

Vacasol Global Engagement Scholarship
