Ten years of September School – International Cooperation
In September, IHL offered its September School for the tenth time. As the first lecturer of the September School, Dr. Lazarus Phiri, came from nowadays IHL’s partner university Evangelical University in Ndola, Zambia, in 2016, IHL once more invited an academic from Evangelical University in 2025: Samuel Yawila, Dean of Academic Affairs and Lecturer of Education.
Samuel Yawila taught an education course to XX IHL students in the 3-credit point block class about “Participatory Teaching and Learning Strategies from an African Perspective”. This topic addressed the various teaching and learning methods employed generally in the African context and specifically in Zambia’s theological education.
“In the tenth year of having the September School, hosting this class has been an important element of IHL’s internationalization strategy. Some of our students might not have had the chance to go abroad themselves because of various kinds of reasons. The concept of this class has made it possible to connect these students with IHL’s partner universities and international renown researchers and lecturers. However, it has also allowed study abroad students to reconnect with their lecturers from their study abroad semesters.”,
Lucas Wehner, manager of IHL’s international & mobility office says.
The September School has also been an instrument to start and advance international university partnerships. After Dr. Phiri’s teaching in 2016, a memorandum of understanding between the Evangelical University and IHL was signed. It has led to more than 30 IHL students having studied at the Evangelical University, three IHL professors having taught classes at the partner university and two Evangelical University lecturers having taught classes at IHL.
